Useful Apps

Here are some great apps that are downloaded onto our class iPad.  You can download these to your iPad and iPhone as well.  Many will also work for Android.

Showcase Your Learning

Seesaw - This is app is used to create a portfolio of your work for this course.  Seesaw is user friendly and allows you to take images, pdfs, notes, and links of your work to add to your portfolio.  This can then be shared to classmates or your parents so that they are able to view the neat things we are creating in class.  Portfolios are extremely useful to showcase your work products over the semester.  We will be utilizing this method for turning in work at the end of semester that demonstrates growth over time.  Throughout the semester you will upload work and organize it with Seesaw.

     

Socrative - This is a great way to see what you have learned in class - so be sure to pay attention!  With this app you can quickly participate in exit slips, polls, and races.

Planning

Mindmup - Plan ideas for projects, collect ideas for group work, organize thoughts so that you can create more unified projects for this class.  With this app you can even add in images, which could be used to create a digital storyboard.

Skitch - A great app to visually share your thoughts with others.  This app allows you to draw and annotate over images and documents.

SpiderScribe Jr. - Similar to Mindmup, you can organize your thoughts to plan for projects.  Use this to brainstorm ideas and draw connections between your ideas (able to add images to your text).

Storytelling/Presentation Creation

Adobe Spark Video - With this app you can easily create videos adding voice overs, icons, images, and cinematic effects to tell stories digitally.  A great tool for creating a presentation or for making your own video.  Apple users have reviewd this app as "Simplest storytelling app ever", "Brilliant and beautiful", and "it is [easy] to create something professional looking in no time at all."  Once you start creating your own Adobe Spark, you can follow a template to create your digital story or start from scratch.  There are different options for the layout and theme of the video and you are able to record your voice over each slide (a slide can also be a photo).  While this app is free, it does require you to sign up with Adobe.

Buncee - A more simplified way to tell digital stories.  In this app you can record audio; use images, photos, drawings, stickers; and text.

Extending Your Learning

Audio

Hokusai Audio Editor - Want an alternative to Audacity, would you like to edit on your phone or tablet?  Then Hokusai is a great option for you.  You can edit, cut, split, mix audio, and add multiple effects to your audio.  Once finished you can export as a .wav or .mp4 format.

 

Coding/Programming

Bloxels - Want to try creating another a game?  Bloxels allows uses to create, share, and play games they create from scratch.  You can design the layout, colors, and animate characters using pixels.

Pixel Press Floors - Draw ideas for your games on paper and photograph it and then use it to create your game or draw it in the app.  You don’t have to do coding with this app, but once your design is finished the app automates game play.

 

Tickle - Practice your coding and programming skills with this app where you can choose from different characters like Lego, Star Wars BB-8, Drones, and more.  Use coding blocks to create your world that you can code on an iPad or connect to another device.

Photo

Adobe Photoshop Mix - Perform basic edits on your photos, mix photos together, add filters - all on your iPhone and iPad.  When you finish editing you can save your photo back to your camera roll.  While this app is free, it does require you to sign up with Adobe.   

 

Canva - Practice your graphic design skills by adding fonts, graphics, and images.  Useful to create posters, memes, collages, and many more.  This app includes basic photo edits.

Video

Text on Video - This app is great for quick video edits and adding text overlays.  Very easy to use and you can save video back to your camera roll.

 

Quik - Easily edit your videos using a wide variety of cinematic effects.  This app, created by the makers of GoPro™, automatically finds interesting parts of videos to add dramatic effects.
